Indigenous Culture

The cultural aspect of our tours is centred on getting our visitors near to the ancestral native cultures. Dispatching the living conditions of those inhabiting the jungle is the aim of the visits that we organise in the indigenous communities and families of the region. You will be explained the housing, agriculture, medicinal plants, home running and every day customs. Quechua hospitality will invite the stranger to taste a drink called chicha de yuca and other typical Amazonian products.

As for shamanism, should you wish, you can take part in spiritual rites lead by a shaman and drink the famous ayahuasca (drink with hallucinogenic capacities). This activity being excluded from the total price of the tour, please tell us fairly in advance if you are interested.

Besides a visit to an indigenous family, other possible cultural activities can be chosen such as visiting the popular fair of the neighbour San Pedro community every Thursday and Friday, where Huaorani natives are regularly to be met.

On the way back and forth between the Jungle Lodge and Misahuallí, you will also visit a native earthenware shop and an ethnographic museum in which you will learn a few ancestral techniques of jars manufacturing, fishing and hunting.
